at Black’s Is Too Relatable

Black’s Beach is a magical place. She’s also a cruel mistress known for canyon clean up sets that seemingly pop up out of nowhere and sweep through the lineup like a Swiffer Wet Jet™.

The GoPro footage above may be over a year old, but it’s so relatable. In it, an unsuspecting surfer frantically scratches toward the horizon to beat a rogue set. He dips under the first wave, barely duck dives the second, and then takes a third right on the head – complete with a 30-second hold down. What’s worse, the ordeal results in a snapped board.

A word of caution, this video is bound to cause memories of all those terrible hold downs you’ve ever experienced to come flooding back to you. Enjoy.
